Mighty Casey Has Struck Out!

Alas, for Paul and Faith and all their kids and the people of Roseau and all the people living in north western Minnesota and everybody in the world who likes to cheer for the little guy. The undefeated Roseau hockey team, tiny in size but mighty in spirit, the team the experts thought would win it all handily, met its tragic fate and got trounced by Hill Murray. What was it. . .the semi finals? So don't expect to hear anything from Paul for many a day. He is, I'm sure, numb and paralyzed with grief.

I listened to some of the games on the internet. Paul will have to tell us about the goal that was called back. Also sounded like the Roseau power play was powerless; they had plenty of opportunities. Sometimes you wonder if a loss during the regular season would help the team to work harder, keep their egos in check, and not fall apart if they get behind. How many times did they have to come from behind during the regular season?

Mark, I'm glad you were able to listen to some of it. Did you hear the first game? The one where we beat Blaine 8-2? Those were the Rams we were used to.

The loss to Hill Murray on Friday night was a shock. I'm quite sure we'd never been behind by more than one goal all season. Even so, if we could have scored that goal that was called back it would have been 3-2 with plenty of time to tie it up. Saying that - I have to admit that it definitely was not a legitimate goal - we had a guy in the crease.

Hill Murray was definitely the most physical team we'd faced all year... and a little dirty it seemed. They may have gotten into the heads of our guys. They definitely had the best defense we'd seen all season.

I missed Saturday's games. I was taking part in a Pracs study this weekend - I was a guinea pig for a cholesteral lowering drug both this weekend and last weekend. Perhaps I'll find some time to talk about that this coming week. I see that Roseau also lost the third place game. On the bright side - Hill Murray went on to defeat Edina 3-0.

Hey Paul. You're supposed to be silent, "numb and paralyzed with grief"!

I read the account of that game at the Minneapolis paper and found the viewer comments following the report interesting. Most of them were Hill Murray supporters defending their tactics and outraged that anyone would think they breached the bounds of fair play. I am a hockey ignoramous but, reading between the lines, I think a lot of people thought Hill Murray was exploiting the vague areas of the rules.

I saw the last half of the final and thought HM was amazing against Edina. Didn't see any dirty play in that game. Of course, I was rooting for HM because I still hurt from the many times Edina won when I was in high school.
