One More From Sufjan

Since childhood Sufjan has never liked Christmas much. It brought out the worst in his somewhat dysfunctional family. As an adult his pastor suggested that every year he should create a disk of Christmas songs to send to friends and relatives as a way to overcome his issues. He did this for five years before he became famous. Some of the songs are goofy, some angry, some sad and some reverent. Those disks are currently our favorite Christmas disks.

I'm experimenting with ways to present music on our blog. To the right should be an audio player. You can click to hear a few of Sufjan's Christmas songs. The first is reverent, the second silly and the third is kind of sad. The third, I'm guessing from the lyrics, he was suffering with depression that year and used this song to apologise for being such a jerk.

If other's want to post a favorite song or playlist in a week or two I'll include some explanation of how to do that in a comment.

If you want to put a different song into the Imeem player:

1. You need to be registered at our blog as one allowed to edit things. If you're not, you could send your song to one of us who is registered or ask one of us to change your status at the site.

2. Go to www.imeeem.com. Register your name there (it's free).

3. See if they have the song you want. Find it and play it.

4. While it is playing notice a little below the record controls there is the word "embed" followed by a web site address. Copy that address with "contol C".

5. Now there are two options. 1. Email the copied site to me and I'll post it. 2. Go to your blogspot control panel. At eroundrobin click the "Layout" tab. Then click "Edit" next to the imeem rectangle.

6. It takes awhile but eventually you'll see data. In the "content" window delete what's there and enter the embeded site you copied from Imeem.

7. Save and that should do it.

I'm having trouble viewing comments on the previous post with the UTube video imbedded. In case you are having the same trouble, the comment is from "Ty" and it goes like this:

well done uncle Dan, you just nailed two of my favorite artists with your last two posts. Sufjan also has his own record label that he and his step father run with equally strange acts. my personal favorite is a guy who goes by the name half-handed cloud. the label is called asthmatic kitty.

a couple of Sufjans good friends are definitely worth checking out, especially if you like aaron espe. Denison Witmer and Rosie Thomas are both wonderful.
