Playing On The Floor

'Remember these toys? I don't think I do - did you all destroy them before I joined the family?

Eight Year Gap
I finished scanning the second box of slides tonight. I've got one more box to go - 7 cassettes. It looks like we have a gap between '58 and '65. 'Any ideas where those slides would be?

I have 4 black and white photo albumns from about 1934 to one that has a handful of twin photos 1955-56. Quite a few of me and Greg. There are not many photos from after the war, the late 40's.

I also have two metal boxes with slides. one has 300 slides. The second only has two rows with slides, maybe 100. It looks like these slides go up to about 1953. I think dad was transferring all the slides into those round carosels, and that is probably as far back as he got.

I don't think he took a lot of pictures from 58 to 65. He used to get the film developed and then put them into the blue slide holders himself because they were an odd size. His camera took half-sized 35mm i think, and that is why he had to do it himself. It also cost less. Perhaps his camera broke and he never got a new one. Perhaps he did take some photos and never got them developed. (I still have some film a couple of years old that i never developed).

I sure like digital. You can take dozens of pictures for free and some are bound to turn out OK. If they are bad you can manipulate them until they are great.

I think it was probably 1960 that we took a trip around Lake Superior. It seems to me I've seen some pictures (photos, not slides) from that trip. Does someone have a photo album from the 'lost years'?

I have no photo albums just a few random photos. I have a brag book that belonged to Grandma Stynsberg (Esther) and have one of those pictures up in the hallway. Remember, the trip around the Lake was right before Mom passed away so that would have been in August of 1961. I wouldn't have been surprised if Dad didn't take many photos after Paul was born because Mom wasn't real healthy in those years and there were 5 of us kids.

Please forgive me for putting too much thought into this - I guess it's kind of important to me since it was the first 8 years of my life... I was thinking about those photo Christmas cards every year. I assume dad would have bought a whole roll of film when he needed to take that picture. There must be at least a dozen pictures from every year. I wonder if they would have been slides or prints... I suspect they exist somewhere. Everyone comb your houses!
