Hobo Dinner

A hobo comes up to the front door of a neat looking farmhouse and raps gently on the door. When the farm owner answers, the hobo asks him, "Please, sir, could you give me something to eat? I haven't had a good meal in several days."
The owner says, "I have made a fortune in my lifetime by supplying goods for people. I've never given anything away for nothing. However, if you go around the back, you will see a gallon of paint and a clean paint brush. If you will paint my porch, I will give you a good meal."
So the hobo goes around back and a while later he again knocks on the door. The owner says, "Finished already? Good. Come on in. Sit down. The cook will bring your meal right in."
The hobo says, "Thank you very much, sir. But there's something that I think you should know. It's not a Porsche you got there. It's a BMW."

I need your help. It's time to select for the 'Clever Clue of the Month'. Please come on over to my site and vote.

Clowning

I don't know how it started, but back then a bunch of us would go 'clowning' every now and then. Here we have Mark Pinney, Sheldon Withrow, and myself. I'm not sure who the girl is...

By the way, did you hear that Don Knotts, who used to be quite a clown himself, passed away yesterday?

Beach Party

So... any guesses as to where this picture was taken? Pattison Park? Solon Springs?

The e Round Robin: Greg Turns Two

Let's try it this way. I'm still frustrated. I commented on the airport picture this evening but then when I tried to comment on the picture for Greg's bithday or any others I'm not able to get the box up to comment on. By the way, Dean, I thought that was the highchair that made into a drawing table and it seemed like Mom and Dad had it for years. I don't know what happened to the cake plate but likely it broke many years ago. I sure like that built in buffet. People are restoring homes like that these days. grandmajean

Send Alyssa To Washington

Yes, that's right... you can help Alyssa go to Washington. Alyssa, and about 25 of her classmates are planning to go to Washington DC for a week in April. They'll be going as part of the Close Up program. As a Close Up participant she will have the opportunity to observe Congress and the Supreme Court while they are in session, explore the Jefferson Memorial and others, and explore neighborhoods like Georgetown.
She needs to raise about $1500 to go on this trip. She's already been working on fund raising for a couple months but she would really appreciate some more help, if you are able.
Instead of the traditional fund raising thermometer we've decided to be a little different. As you can see, Alyssa is black and white right now. Her picture is also relatively small. You'll want to continue coming back over the next few days and weeks to see if Alyssa's face becomes more colorful and the picture grows larger as the money comes in.

Airport?

My first thought was that this was near the playground at Endion. After I put some more thought into it I decided it must be the airport. What do you guys think?
Speaking of Endion I'm sure you're all aware that it hasn't been a school for many years now. In fact, I worked with a guy a few years ago who attended UMD around the same time as myself and he actually lived there. Apparently our old school was converted to dorms or apartments.
If we would've been on the ball we could've purchased this postcard back in December...

Glitch in Roseau?

After Paul posted the picture of his house, I decided to go there for myself and look around. Just a little north of town the river does something odd, it looks like the hi res section doesn't exactly line up with the low res section. Perhaps Paul should go over there and see what's going on.

We had some cool toys back then, didn't we? Tinker toys and erector sets... Note to young parents: get good toys for your kids and take pictures of them with their creations.

Google Earth - wow!

I finally got around to downloading the Google Earth program which Mark recommended about 4 months ago, and. . .wow!

Dean and Kurt and the Lindstroms are planning a trip to Alaska this summer and I was wondering about climbing Sheep Mountain in the Kluane Range again (see postings in early Oct & Nov). I couldn't find a topographic map on the internet so I tried Google Earth. Here's what I got. Not only is it there, but I can zoom in and move around. I followed, for example, the river to the west up into the glacier fields. Then for the fun of it I "flew" to Moscow and looked around, then over to the Grand Canyon and ended up back in Alaska wandering around Mount McKinley. Has anyone else taken Mark's suggestion and tried Google Earth?

Back from a great Vacation!

What is a link? oh, well, I just by passed that! Ralph and I just returned from a week in the eastern Caribbean. What a wonderful time. I will attempt to write a family letter, soon, but it may be a few weeks. Our church calendar is extremely full for both Ralph and me. I would like to have Ralph help put pictures on it because I can't do it myself.

We left here on Jan. 28th at 4:30 AM and arrived in Ft Lauderdale at about 12:30PM. We set sail on the Zeiderdam (Holland America Cruise Line) at about 5:30 PM. We sailed to Half Moon Cay, St. Thomas, Road Town, Tortola and Nausau, Bahamas as our ports of call. We really liked everything about the cruise. Yes, there is as much food as we've always heard about. Some of you gourmet cooks would really appreciate the unusual foods served as well as the presentation.
One of the highlights of the cruise for us was the praise and worship time. We went through Inspiration Cruises with "iWorship, Integrity Music" for our cruise, so perhaps close to half of the passengers were from either KTIS or one of it's affliate stations from around the country. We were led in worship by Don Moen, Sara Groves, Lenny LeBlanc, Paul Baloche, Robin Mark, some guitarists, drummer and keyboardist. They were excellant. Because we were kept busy with the worship time we had little time to take in many other shows on board, but we weren't disappointed. Our table mates for dinner each evening were 3 other couples from the Twin Cities or suburbs.

It took us far longer to get home because we went by way of Houston, TX but were delayed because of poor weather. We missed our connecting flight to Mpls by about 4 hours, so the airline put us up in a hotel on Sat. night. We were given another flight into Mpls on Sun. morning but had to take a connecting flight through Detroit on the way home!

Must close for now. Please note my comment...I don't know why I cannot comment on some of the pictures at times. Ralph says I say too much so I'm not allowed to comment. I don't comment real often so I say I can say as much as I want. The little egg timer comes up when I try to comment. I could only comment on one picture this evening.

The e Round Robin: Bath Time

The e Round Robin: Bath Time

I have never posted a comment in this manner but the computer is not allowing me to add my comments in the usual manner. I went to the newest picture that I had seen since I was last visiting, the one about Allen and Dorothy, and after that I couldn't leave any comments. Yes, Mom and Dad did hire someone when we came home from the hospital. Remember, Mom wasn't in very good health, either. The woman is not Mrs. Cato, Mrs. Pearson, Mrs. Bloomstrand or Mrs. Julien. I believe the woman lived with us full-time. All of those women had families of their own by that time and had to care for their own children. I do remember faces!

Bath Time

Anyone know who the woman on the right is?

Boat on the icy shore

Here is where the ship ended up. Thankfully it is a double-hulled tanker that was only about one third full.
This is where the boat is supposed to be, but a large chunk on ice tore it away from the dock and moved it into the shore.
This view is from the top of the tower at work. The LNG plant is below. It has been below zero recently. We are trying to start up our plant and a lot of things are frozen....
