5K

I ran my first 5K race today. Up until a few weeks ago I had never run 3 miles. It's amazing a guy can live 51 years and never run that far. I came in 42nd place out of 89 men with a time of 31.39. It was a great experience - I'm already looking forward to next year.
I'm curious - how fast would Peter and Jonathon be able to run this race. I'm guessing 17-18 minutes. Am I close?

Jonathan's personal best is 18:50 and Peter's is 16:50. That means if Peter didn't start until Jonathan finished, you would have beat Peter by 4 minutes and one second.

With a time of 16:50 Peter would've come in second place overall today. The winner had a time of 16:40. Jonathon would've been 6th place. Perhaps you guys should consider coming up next August...? Greg also? Anyone else?

I will never run a marathon. I used to enjoy running and even went out for track in high school but I wasn't fast enough so I dropped out. I wish I had stuck it out as scorekeeper or something just for the fun of it. I was so shy that it was difficult for me to do things like that.

I still enjoy walking but don't get out to work out like I did before we started to care for Gwyn and Rhi.

I don't know if I'll run much more; I had bad knees for a few years. They're good now, but knees don't take near the beating from the brisk walking that I do now.

We have a guy that helps us butcher our turkeys. He's in his 70s. He still runs marathons.

I run around our big block -- 3 miles. It takes a little over a half hour. I haven't done it for a while. Seems these days, I have to choose between exercise and a good night's sleep.
