It's a good thing Mark is retired because when it snows he removes an overwhelming 800 feet of snow.
First step: He plows his own driveway which gives him 300 feet.
Then: he goes over to his "cabin" to add on another 325 feet.
And finally: just for the fun of it, he goes to Christopher's house for another 175 feet.
So in one sense Mark is the winner by a long shot. But (since I didn't win) I wonder if he isn't in fact the loser and Greg with his measly 37 feet is in truth the winner?
The distance between Mark and the rest of us lengthens even more when you consider that Minnesota averages 45 inches of snow a season and the Kenai averages 90. If we were to factor that in then in "Minnesota Feet" Mark moves 1600 feet of snow.
Ouch! Again. . . it's a good thing he's retired and congratulations to Mark. He is the manliest of men no matter what the method of removal is.

Congratulations, Mark!
Just one final word on snow management: I am really disappointed in the shovel manufacturers these days. I still have my favorite plastic snow shovel that I bought when we were renting in Burnsville. For some reason no one gets quite the right angle or round? on the push shovel. My favorite method of snow management is to push as much as possible then throw it the rest of the way. But none of the more modern shovels push the snow as well and my 23 year old shovel is getting kind of short! Enough snow blather!
Too bad we can't get Steve in on this conversation. I know that he has strong opinions about snow shoveling methodology. I have heard him wax eloquent on the advantages of pushing rather than lifting.
He was once at a gathering where he tried to strike up a conversation with strangers by asking, "What number of ski wax do you use on your shovels?"
(Steve claims that with his old computer and his dial-up service and his technical obtuseness he can't access this web site. He's getting this all through his e-mail though so he reads it but can't respond.)
We have new photos of nikiski on google earth. Someone said they were taken in april of this year when there was a little bit of snow left and the detail seems better.
