First Snow

We had our first snowfall on Fri the 12th. I didn't have the camera along in the morning when it was coming down quite heavily. This snow stayed in the garden, but melted on Saturday.

These moose saw the warm kitchen and wanted to come inside and warm up.

Coneheads

George is getting on in age and with that comes physical problems. He just had some surgery and is now wearing a cone on his head so he doesn't bother the stitches. He was acting self conscious so I suggested to the family that we all wear coneheads until the stitches come out. It's an interesting experience and will come in usefeul since as we all age many of us will also eventually need to wear a cone so we don't bother our stitches.

Grandma Jean

This is Dan speaking. I was looking at the list of recent posts and found three drafts from almost two weeks ago that were unposted. . .all from Grandma Jean. Two of them were blank. This one had a picture. I'm assuming she had problems. I'm posting it. She can tell us why.

Young Dan Lindstrom

Ever astute little brother Paul has noted that I haven't posted a photo of myself from the early years for quite sometime. Well I'm always eager to oblige. Here is a photo from my seventh birthday. Comments?

Closing Kenai plant

Looks like our plant is really shutting down this time. You can read the article by clicking on the title above. We'll be working until December or January with a few staying a few months longer. Thankfully this has been a great job for over 30 years and it is close to retirement time anyway. We were forewarned of this for several years and able to get ready for the final announcement.

Summer siding away

The rose hips are all out now and very red. They are loaded with vitamin C.

It poured outside last night and this is a wet fireweed plant. We are starting to get frost on the ground in the morning.

The siding is finished on this side except for some painting. If you click on the title of the blog you will open a page that tells how to put up cement siding. Dan was wondering.

Here is a view from my neighbors lot of the south side. This is a nice quiet neighborhood and lake.

Geodesic Dome Puzzle

We have a mens group at our church, and on Friday we took the time to help Reuben put together this Geodesic Dome Puzzle. We were going to use a crane, but it rained for several days before, and two different boom trucks could not get up the hill. We were able to put it up by hand. Thankfully there were no accidents. It was a lot of fun.

Evidences of Summer's End

The raspberries are now ripe and ready for pickers. Do you see the fireweed flower? This photo is a few weeks old and there are no flowers left on the fireweed now, and that means snow is coming soon!

Lois Ann and i are putting up cement siding. We made a mistake on the Tyvek.

Holly and myself climbing up the scaffold. When you start projects at the end of summer they go so much faster.

The fair is another sign of the end of summer. This is called "Grilled Salmon".

This one is called "Board of Fish & Game". The other side has a "snaggle" (scrabble) board.

I Blame Paul

Some of us went with Paul and JaNae to a Twins game on Saturday. It was raining and we got drenched going to the park. The game was uneventful and the eventual shutout loss was hardly ever in doubt. But then, the very next day, Johan Santana strikes out 17, makes the national news, and enters into the Twins record book with the most strikeouts in a single game. He could have even gone on to pitch a shutout but both Johan and Gardy thought it best to bring in Nathan to close it out. If Johan had struck out the last three batters he would have tied the MLB record of 20 in a game!

I blame it all on Paul! Why did he insist we go on Saturday? Why not Sunday? In spite of the loss on Saturday we all had a great time. Dean even bought a large popcorn and shared it with everybody (except Jonathan). But now all I can think about is how much MORE fun we would have had if Paul hadn't insisted on the Saturday game.

Weather news...

Hurricane Dean strengthened to a Category 2 storm in the Atlantic as it neared islands in the eastern Caribbean. Hurricane warnings were issued for some islands, and a tropical storm watch was issued for the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Book Report

Here's another book I would recommend -- Life of Pi by Yann Martel.

It's about a boy who grows up the son of a zookeeper in India. When he's sixteen, their family moves to North America with some of their zoo animals, but the boat sinks and Pi finds himself in a lifeboat with a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger!

Sound interesting? Martel is an imaginative writer. This book was the winner of the Man Booker Prize for fiction in 2002.

Baseball

I tried to get ahold of many of you by email. For some reason my email was blocked by some of your ISPs...

Anyway, I'll be down in the Twin Cities on August 18th. 'Anybody wanna go to a Twins game? (I'm sure they'll start winning again soon...)

I'm on my way home

A week from tomorrow I'll be back in the beloved state of Minnesota!!! If you can't already tell I'm getting excited. I packed up my whole room into two suitcases and a carry on bag. Not an easy thing to do. When I get home I'm going to be buying some basic medical equipment like a stethoscope, an otoscope and a blood pressure cusp. It's so weird. I'm going to be a nurse.

grandmajean

I'm going to break the silence. Is everyone as busy as us. We are doing well and are blessed. Ericka just received an answer to prayer this evening. Continue to keep us all in your prayers. Ericka loves correspondence or even just a quick call, an I love you.

Our friends and family have been so dear to us. God knows all our needs. There is definitely spiritual warfare going on in our church. Our pastor is doing so well since his accident over a year ago but now his wife is suffering severe back pain. She is going through some testing to try to identify the cause. We have a great God and know He will work out everything for his good.

Digital Photography

Our old computer was slowly dying so we took all of the old pictures out of it and put them into our laptops. When we were finished we found out there were 11,318 pictures since November of 2002! I like digital photography. Lois Ann has windows vista on her computer and they have a pretty handy photo editing program for fixing up many mistakes so there is no such thing as a bad photo anymore.

Holly and Christoffer are taking a picture. Some of the pictures were theirs.

This is a selfish picture. The self-timer took the photo. We hiked up Summit Creek trail on the Monday before the 4th.

How many photos do you all have since going digital?
