a christmas of surprises
In case you were curious as to my whereabouts last Christmas, I spent the time on a 10 day road trip with my friends Scott and Colleen from Canada. In that short time span we hit Austin, Houston, Galveston, Corpus Cristi, and finally ended up on South Padre Island to spend Christmas. The weather channel was predicting pretty bad weather for most of the state of Texas, but we wanted to spend our Christmas on the beach with 80 degrees, so we asked our friends in Houston where we should go. They told us that we could probably count on some pretty nice weather on South Padre, so we took their suggestion and headed in that direction. Boy were we in for a surprise!!! We noticed it was a little chilly when we arrived there, but we didn't think anything of it. It was 35 degrees on Christmas Eve and raining and yet we still didn't think anything of it. We all thought it would be kind of strange to experience a Christmas without snow, but we were ready for a change. The weirdest thing happened though when we opened the curtains in the morning. "Whoa!!! There's white stuff on the palm trees. Oh no," we all groaned, "we brought the snow with us!!! The lady at the front desk blamed us. When she saw the snow coming down she thought of us right away. The manager at the hotel took the opportunity to have a snowball fight with one of the guests in the parking lot. It was definitely a memorable Christmas, especially considering that they hadn't had snow there in 100 years. We went to Mexico that day as well and our taxi driver told us that it was the first time he had ever seen snow. Crazy!!! That's all I have to say.

Our trees are coated with ice and snow and it is supposed to go to -10 degrees tonight. That is farenheight or however you spell it for our Australian and texan relatives. I wish i could just grow a palm tree in the house.
Tex-o-tan,
Thanks for the update!
Wow, that's a bummer--snow on South Padre... Reminds me of a trip to visit Travailles on St. Croix (Virgin Islands) several years ago. Except we had the 80 degree weather. It was wonderful!
