A Peak Experience

I commented on Paul's "Sheep Mountain" post that I was going to examine my water damaged slides to see what I could retrieve. So far, I've found a few from that great trip to Alaska in the Fall of 1973. They're scannable but lacking in detail. Tom Bergum, Bill Sjoblom, Steve, Paul, Dean and Dan. We're probably about a fourth of the way up the mountain. You can get a little perspective by locating our two parked cars far below. One has a canoe on top.

Wow! Great pictures, Dan. I'm taking the day off from posting so everyone can take a few more minutes to feast on these.

Hey! Who took the pictures? There must be a seventh person. (?) It's embarassing how little of this trip I remember. I definitely remember the mountain climb. I remember snow. I remember Steve serving apple muesli for breakfast. And that's about it.

I can't believe there was a 7th person... My recollection was Bill and Steve in Bill's car most of the time. The rest of us, I can't imagine more than 4, in the, what was it, a station wagon? with spare tires on top?

The camera must have had a timer...

My printer just died. Does anyone have any recommendations? Do any of you actually have a printer that you like?

I bought a printer a year ago and spent a little time investigating. I ended up buying a Canon i560. I started to tell a computer geek at church about my choice, but he interrupted me and filled in the details cuz he had just bought a printer too, and it was a Cannon very similar to mine.
The main attraction was four ink cartridges - Black, Magenta, Cyan and Yellow. And each cartridge costs about $12. You use a lot of Yellow you only pay for yellow. With my old Epson printer there was black and color and each cartridge cost about $35.
The i560 is probably now dated, but I have nothing but good things to say about Canon printers.

By the way. If you look closely at these pictures you can see that DeanTheBean is packing a camera. Does DeanTheBean have further documentation of this memorable climb?

1.) I just bought a new Epson CX7800 (along with a desktop eMachines and flat panel). It also has 4 cartridges, color copies, scan, photo options, etc. $180. I like it fine.

2.) I'll have to start looking through old photos... I think Bill didn't climb to the top. We spent a good part of the day on that mountain. I loved the mountain hike and the whole trip--one of the highlights of my life!

Since I am toting my camera, it wasn't my camera that took the pictures--whether or not it had a timer...

So I would say it would be down to Tom's or Bill's camera the took the pictures. I'm leaning toward Bill, because he's the closest to the camera in both cases... Does anyone have a recollection as to whether Bill had a camera along?

Who's printer died??? Mine is a Canon i850 and it has bee working GREAT for 2 or 3 years now. Someone must've forgotten to switch back to their own username when they wrote a couple of comments above about the camera timer and their printer. Anyway that is OK. Most printer companies make their money off of the ink that they sell i think. This Canon uses 4 ink cartridges that you can replace as they run out. I never kept track but they usually run out within several weeks of each other. Whenever Hiedi is home she prints dozens and dozens of photos and they come out very nice. I think there are newer Canons that have 6 ink cartriges. I also seem to remember that Canon might be the company that makes the printer head that most printers use. My memory is very decieving though.

Lois Ann and i went to Whitehorse, Skagway, and Dawson City in 2003 i think. It was a great trip. The only problem was that i didn't have a digital camera. We took some regular photos on probably the same mountain. There is a trail that goes partway up. Lois Ann sat on a bench near the top of the trail while i climbed up further. You can see the south end of Kluane lake on the top photo and also the Alcan Highway (which is blacktop now). Everyone is so young and skinny.

1. Yes, it was me posing as Mark last night. I followed Dean's excellent instructions for becoming blog admin and added a favorites link. Of course I didn't even consider that I would be Mark for the rest of the time. That may come in handy the next time I want to make controversial comments...

2. Thanks for the printer advice. My computer geek neighbor talked me into an HP - see:

This is the same printer he purchases for Marvin R&D and he's been very happy with them. I'll probably get the kit for re-filling cartridges to keep my ink costs down. I'll be purchasing this in a couple hours unless one of you persuade me otherwise.

I have a faint recollection that I opened my camera before rewinding the film when we got back down the mountain... and lost all my photos.

We have a Lexmark X1185 that we bought at Walmart for really cheap (I never remember how much I spent) that scans, copies, prints and eats (drinks?) ink out of 2 cartridges, but we don't do a lot of printing with all the girls out of school. No complaints!
