Let's see how many people we know in this picture. Number your response. Give us a hint to the position. Name the name. And for extra points tell us something about where they ended up after this picture was taken.
For example. . .#1. Towards the center but lower and to the left is Sue Joyner wearing some kind of fake fur collar. If I am not mistaken, Sue is married with children and living somewhere near or in Stillwater. Wasn't she, at one time, romantically linked with brother Mark and Bill Sjoblom? (Don't tell Lois Ann!)
Here's something embarassing. . .Youth For Christ, at the time, had a party to counter Prom (which was considered too worldly) and I know I went, and I may have gone with Sue Joyner, but I can't remember. It might have been Corine Carlson or. . .the man in the moon. No offense to whoever I took. I remember a Bill Sjoblom story from the 10 year reunion of the Proctor High class of '67. He started talking with a girl, and he told her honestly, that he couldn't remember her, and she told him, "You took me to the Prom!" and then she burst into tears and ran away.

Next to Sue are #2. Stephanie Peterson and #3. Corinne Carlson. That suave young man who has them all entranced is none other than #4. Brother Mark.
#5. The elderly man with glasses in the lower right corner is Einer Hammerstrom. Does anyone remember his wife's name? Their son, Floyd, was my age. He wasn't really thier son. I think he might have been their grandson. It never entered my mind to ask what happened to his parents.
Floyd was a troublemaker. I remember one time in Junior Church, Dagmar got a big white dish towel from the kitchen and tied it around his head and made him sit in the front row. To get him to stop talking she had gagged him! I don't suppose they do that in Junior Church anymore.
'Great Bill story, Dan. If you could find out who *that* woman was and where she is today it would be helpful.
Also, great contest. #6 - upper right-hand corner: Don Tedlund. Perhaps Jean, with her contacts, could find out where he is these days and also what his son Tom is doing...
I would guess this is from the wedding reception? That was a great Bill Sjoblom story. I have sympathy for him since my memory is going fast now. Is that Nancy Eneroth and Linda Sundeen in the lower left? To the left of Sue is Phil Pearson and Al Peterson. Straight up from me is Dick and Bette Matthews and John Watkins (sitting in chairs). To the left of Dad is Helmer? Bloomstrand. To the top right is ....Tedlund. Someone will have to let me know what everyone is doing.
Slow Down!!! Mark, you're not following the rules. Put a number by each person you identify - including your own father!!! Now I'm going to have to use my executive authority and go back in and clean it up. What I'm interested in is. . .how many people we can name? A bonus is memories and updates. Rewards are at stake here! What to me would be a hoot is if we could collectively identify everybody.
The judges have consulted and Mark will not be given:
1. Dick and Betty Matthews, because the direction "straight up" proved inconclusive. What am I supposed to do? Randomly pick a male and female above the suave one?
2. John Watkins, because the direction "sitting" was inconclusive. There is more than one person sitting.
3. Helmer Bloomstrand, because (a) the direction "left" is inconclusive and (b) he doesn't even know if his name is "helmer".
Those people are up for grabs. First come, first served.
Ok, so let me think here. . .the last official designation was #11 with John Stynsberg. Next count will be #12.
Oh good. Some easy points for me!
#12 - Standing right next to John Stynsberg would be Ruth Stynsberg
#13, #14 - To John Stynsberg's right and sitting in the 3-second zone are two men. The one on the left is #13 Dick Matthews. The balding one on the right is #14 John Watkins.
#15 - Helmer Blomstrand (passed away on Feb 23, 1999) just behind and to the right of John Stynsberg.
#16 - Standing between Phil Pearson and Al Peterson facing the camera is Al Peterson's wife, Marge Peterson.
#17 - Almost certainly across from Marge is (her back to the camera) Phil Pearson's wife, Mrs. Pearson. Can't remember her first name. Starts with "L"?
#18, 19, 20 - To Phil Pearson's right are three people standing--a woman with her back to the camera and two boys. At first, I thought these boys must be Dennis and Rick Pearson, but now maybe the woman is Bette Matthews and the boys might be her sons: Rob lives in Mpls, Rick in Grand Junction, CO. Or maybe the boys are Dennis and Rick after all and Bette is seated next to her husband almost totally obscured by #20 Jean Watkins (next).
#20 - Standing between the boys and Dick Matthew looks like Jean Watkins, John Watkins' wife.
#21, 22 - Seated at the top left corner looks like #20 Karen Brygger and #21 Carol Kuster. Last I knew Karen was living in Grand Marais running an organic restaurant.
#23 - Looks like Grandma Peterson standing just in front of Don Tedlund -- upper right.
Dean doesn't sound too sure of Bette Rob and Rick. And I'm not entirely convinced that's Grandma Peterson. I hesitate to challenge though, especially since she's wearing a flower as if she's a person of honor. Dean's count got off between 20 and 21. Grandma Peterson is #24 so the count is at #25.
I'm really curious about a few people...
Who is the woman by herself with the dark purse and the dark hat, partially obscuring John Watkins, and looking off to her left?
Who are the two ladies top mid-left in their heavy coats, the one with a white hat the other with glasses, sizing up the audience?
Who is the woman hugging mom?
Are the 5 guys on the left side perhaps from AT&T?
I was expecting Jean to come in and blow us all away, but she must be busy. Directly behind Dick Matthews at the top of the photo is #25. Leonard Carlson.
This is a tough one. . .if you look at Don Tedlund in the upper right and follow his eyes, half hidden amidst some other people it looks like he is looking at #26. Lois Stacy wearing glasses.
Directly north of Einer Hammerstrom looking full face into the camera is #27. Bob Lindman.
To the right of Bob, looking left and eating cake is #28. Irv Stauffer.
To the left of Bob, looking left and eating cake is #29. Rick Gilsen. I was tempted to say Steve, but the profile and the jaw line just don't seem to ring true with that theory. Rick, though a distant relative, (a cousin of the Lindmans but not the Lindstroms) has seemed to always show up at important life events in my family.)
Directly to the left of Einer is # 30. Mrs. Van Reese, the mother of Dave Van Reese who married Patty Sjoblom.
There are people Dean indicated who he himself admitted were questionable, but since they were from the Stynsberg side of things I have nothing to say. I'm getting close to accepting the "Grandma Peterson" designation, but have another issue with him. . .he thinks he located Karen Brygger in the upper left, but were the Bryggers even in the picture in 1967? Wasn't it a year or so later when Joe Brygger became the interim pastor and we all were introduced to the Brygger family? I admit it looks a bit like her, but what was she doing there in 1967?
If it's not Karen Brygger then it may not be Carol Custer. How old would they have been in 1967? Here's a clincher. . .who was the pastor who married Mom and Dad?
Wahooo! Jean just came on (10 p.m. Saturday at the score-keeping entry) and she entered a bunch of names and issued the challenges I was wondering about! I'll try and sort it all out by tomorrow night.
You've GOT to admit they look JUST LIKE Carol Kuster and Karen Brygger!! Doesn't that make them Carol and Karen??
looks like dean is getting credit for some that i picked out before him.
unfair

Dear Unfair, read the directions.
Also. . .Karen Brygger and Carol Kuster have been officially removed. Even if they were there they would have been young girls, like Jean.
Regarding Jean's challenge of Rick Gilsen vs. Steve, I'm going to give it to Jean. I think it's Steve.
Here's my thinking. . .assuming people feel awkward standing alone at a party I try to establish linkings. Who is Irv Stauffer talking with and why is Steve/Rick rudely snubbing Irv with his back to him? I'm guessing that Steve/Rick is linked with somebody else. Besides it is easy to see that Irv is chatting with Bob Lindman. The most likely candidate for a conversation buddy with Steve/Rick is the young man 3 feet to the left of Steve/Rick looking up at John and Ruth and away from the camera. It could easily be imagined that he turned away from Steve/Rick to look at the bride and groom for a few seconds. Who is that guy? He has the build and hairdo of none other than Rick Gilsen. My former identification of "Rick" was based on the assumption that Rick was at one time much skinnier than I remembered. So. . .unless challenged I'm going with #39. Rick Gilsen as the guy looking at Mom and Dad, and I'm giving Steve/Rick to Jean as Stephen Peter Lindstrom.
The next identification will be #40
